Friday Recap and Monday Activities

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend. I've been amazed by a few sports things this weekend, we'll talk about them on Monday, but I felt like my weekend had a great start because of class on Friday. I hope you enjoyed the coaches panel as much as I did. Some have said they'd like to do it again, I'm all for that. I'd like to invite some different coaches, but I'd like to have Ms. Larson, Mrs. Vlaming, and Mr. Hinojosa back again.

Anyhow, I wanted to solicit some information from you before class on Monday.

Here's what I am asking (simply comment below):

1) If we had a coaches panel again, what topics would you like to see addressed and by whom (which coaches)?

2) What one sporting event makes your 'weekends' worth it? I'm talking about all weekends, all year, no matter what the event is.

3) Something to think about: Who is the greatest athlete in Illinois history? They can be native "Illinoisans" or just athletes from Illinois teams. This may take a bit of searching on your part, but that's okay, do what you can.

See you tomorrow!!!!

By the way, 5 points of extra credit to whomever goes to a Fremd Sporting Event this week. You must stay for the entire event, and you must actually have a coach sign an attendance verification form. We can talk about this tomorrow. I just wanted to tell you know so that you may plan accordingly.

  1. 1. i would like to ask mr H and mrs larson what their definition of a sport would be.

    2. first and second round of the NCAA tourney is my favorite sporting event. i always love watching that stuff.

    3. For all sports, like professoinally also? i would have to say michael jordan. He is still recognized as the greatest basketball player ever by a lot of people and he dominated a sport for so long and created so much pride for people in chicago and illinois.

  2. 1. I agree with joe. I want to see other opinions on what is a sport.

    2. I have to say during the football season. Friday, Fremd football, Saturday, college football, and Sunday, NFL.

    3. I think that you have to look at Harold "Red" Grange or Walter Payton because they are some of the greatest running backs not just in chicago bears history, but in NFL history

  3. 1. To be honest I would have liked to see what Ms. Larson and Mrs. Vlaming had to say about cheerleading being a sport.

    2. This thursday and friday are my favorite two days of the year. The opening round of the NCAA bball tourney is the most exciting sporting event of the year. With the brackets, the upsets, and everyone tuning into the games at lunch, it trumps them all.

    3. Obviously Michael Jordan comes to mind, but currently I believe Dwyane Wade can come close to Jordan as an athlete.

  4. Well, mine aren't very original, but...

    1. I heard Ms. Larson was talking game about cheerleading being a sport, so I'd be interested in hearing that. But, I only would do this if myself or others could ask follow up questions or respond to her answers.

    2. The first two rounds of the tourney. I love it. We've adjusted family vacation plans around going to games or watching games.

    3. Josh Teschner. Kidding, but mine is Michael Jordan. He's one of the best basketball players of all time and one of the greatest athletes of all time also.

  5. 1. I would have liked to ask the coaches how they got involved in the sport and whether they enjoyed playing it.
    2. I'd probably say football season because that's wen our school is most energetic.
    3. I think anyone that can finish a marathon is a great athlete.

  6. 1. I'd love to ask even more about the changing scope of high school sports. like how has the internet magnification of recruiting and other things change how people play sports. Or has the search for scholarships taken away some of the fun of high school sports.

    2. I'm a big high school sports fan especially in Illinois so I love an exciting playoff football or basketball game when the game is do or die and the atmosphere reflects that. I've just finally come to appreciate how awesome the IHSA basketball tournament is, there's really nothing better.

    3. Here's a name from the past but Otto Graham, guy completely changed pro football back in the 50's but since he played before the Super Bowl came around no one really knows who he is. Really a superstar in his day and was an incredible player.

  7. 1. I'd have like to heard more from Ms. Larson and Mrs. Vlaming, particularly about their views about Title IX and female athletes. I also would've wanted to hear a wrestling coach's thoughts on eating disorders and the pressure to remain in a specific weight class. I also would've liked to hear if the coaches thought steroids were an issue at Fremd.

    2. Cubs games...I keep a schedule in my locker. I watch most games, either at home or Wrigley. Also, Fremd football is what I look forward to during the fall because for home games, I love being in marching band, and for away games, I love being in the stands with my friends.

    3. Michael Jordan. Hands down.

  8. 1.I would like to hear more about steroids at the highschool level, if any of the coaches have any experience with it and if so in what way.

2.Sunday night football, the bears every sunday night id watch the bears play and look forward to watching now i dont know what to do with my sundays

3.Walter Payton, greastest player the bears have ever seen.

  9. 1. I would like to talk more about politics in high school sports with the coaches. I would espically like to know their opinoin if any other factors go into team try-outs besides talent and attitude.

    2. I always look foward to saturday night college football games as the season progresses. Nothing beat Texas Tech/Texas last season. Sunday's are the best sports day all year, espically in March. There are afternoon NBA games and college games, spring training baseball, NASCAR races, and NHL in HD on NBC which is sick. March is all around the best sports month.

  10. I agree with joe that the Texas/Texas Tech game has got to be the craziest game this year, and nothing was better this season then that finish.
