Is Scott Boras good or bad for baseball?

Here we are nearing the start of February and Manny Ramirez is still teamless. His agent, the infamous Scott Boras, is still looking for big bucks and more years for the aging slugger. Is Scott Boras having a negative impact on free agency and baseball? Would Manny have a team if he had a different agent? And most importantly, does Boras think for his clients?

  1. Most sports agents are out to improve the living conditions of their athletes and their families. But, more are interested in showing how much they can get and that the dollar is most important. Boras is good for his athlete's wallets and bad for ALL sports in general.

  2. Can you really say that it's Boras's fault that Manny has yet to be signed? Though he's a tremendous player, he does have a reputation for a bad attitude and laziness. In this economy, are owners willing to shell out the kind of money needed to sign a guy who will hit .315 with forty homers, but might do the same amount of negative damage in the locker room?
Also, from the show he put on in the playoffs, Manny knows he should be getting a big contract, something that franchises might not be able to afford during this economic struggle.

  3. do you think manny will go into spring training as a free agent? when do you just take the best available offer and stop shooting high, espically like you said in a struggling economy? it's already February

  4. How funny would it be if no one picked up manny... It be like getting the Barry Bond's treatment but for different reasons, and i think one of the several reasons he isn't signed is Boras.
